Terms, licensing, and ownership notes for PaliCAD and related PaliCAD projects.
PaliCAD Terms of Use
Effective date: September 19, 2026
These Terms of Use apply to PaliCAD and supplement the license under which the PaliCAD software is provided.
PaliCAD is made available under the PolyForm Internal Use License 1.0.0. That license is provided separately and is not modified by these Terms.
1. User Content
“User Content” means files, data, models, drawings, designs, images, text, code, and other material that you create, import, or provide for use with PaliCAD.
PaliCAD does not claim ownership of your User Content.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have any rights or permissions necessary to use User Content that belongs to another person or organization.
2. Output
“Output” means files, models, drawings, designs, renderings, exports, toolpaths, documentation, data, and other results created through your use of PaliCAD.
As between you and the PaliCAD licensor, the licensor claims no ownership rights in your Output solely because it was created using PaliCAD.
The PaliCAD software license does not restrict your use of your Output.
You may use, modify, reproduce, publish, distribute, license, sell, manufacture from, provide to clients, or otherwise commercially exploit your Output without payment of royalties or license fees to the PaliCAD licensor.
This permission applies equally to personal, educational, research, professional, and commercial use of Output.
3. Physical and Commercial Products
You may use PaliCAD to design or develop physical or digital products for yourself, your employer, your clients, or other persons or organizations.
Products designed, manufactured, or otherwise created using PaliCAD are not subject to the PaliCAD software license merely because PaliCAD was used in their creation.
PaliCAD does not claim any royalty, revenue share, ownership interest, or other right in such products merely because they were created using PaliCAD.
4. PaliCAD Material Included in Output
The rights described above do not give you additional rights to PaliCAD itself.
If an Output contains PaliCAD source code, object code, bundled assets, documentation, branding, or other material supplied as part of PaliCAD, that material remains subject to the license or terms that otherwise apply to it.
Simply creating, saving, exporting, rendering, or manufacturing an Output using PaliCAD does not by itself cause the Output to become subject to the PaliCAD software license.
5. Third-Party Rights
These Terms only describe rights granted or claimed by the PaliCAD licensor.
They do not grant you rights to material owned by third parties.
For example, importing, modifying, converting, or exporting third-party material using PaliCAD does not give you ownership of that material or eliminate any rights that another person may have in it.
Third-party libraries, components, fonts, models, assets, or other materials included with or used by PaliCAD may also be subject to their own licenses.
6. PaliCAD Name and Branding
No permission is granted under these Terms to use the PaliCAD name, logo, branding, or other identifiers in a manner that suggests that another product, service, or organization is an official PaliCAD product or is endorsed by PaliCAD.
Use of PaliCAD to create an Output does not require you to credit, mention, or display the PaliCAD name or logo in connection with that Output.
7. Pali Ijo
PaliCAD may use the Pali Ijo CAD kernel.
Pali Ijo is a separate software project and is licensed separately under the MIT License. The license applicable to Pali Ijo is provided with the Pali Ijo source code.
These Terms do not limit rights separately granted under the Pali Ijo license.
8. Relationship to the PaliCAD Software License
These Terms do not replace or modify the PolyForm Internal Use License 1.0.0 applicable to PaliCAD.
The PolyForm Internal Use License governs rights to use, copy, modify, and otherwise exercise rights in the PaliCAD software itself.
These Terms separately clarify the PaliCAD licensor's position regarding User Content, Output, products created using PaliCAD, and PaliCAD branding.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to reduce permissions granted to you under the PolyForm Internal Use License 1.0.0.
9. Version of These Terms
These Terms apply to the version of PaliCAD with which they are provided.
Later versions of PaliCAD may be provided with different terms. Changes to terms accompanying a later version do not retroactively change the terms provided with an earlier version.

Acceptance
In order to get any license under these terms, you must agree to them as both strict obligations and conditions to all your licenses.
Copyright License
The licensor grants you a copyright license for the software to do everything you might do with the software that would otherwise infringe the licensor's copyright in it for any permitted purpose. However, you may only make changes or new works based on the software according to Changes and New Works License, and you may not distribute the software.
Changes and New Works License
The licensor grants you an additional copyright license to make changes and new works based on the software for any permitted purpose.
Patent License
The licensor grants you a patent license for the software that covers patent claims the licensor can license, or becomes able to license, that you would infringe by using the software.
Fair Use
You may have "fair use" rights for the software under the law. These terms do not limit them.
Internal Business Use
Use of the software for the internal business operations of you and your company is use for a permitted purpose.
No Other Rights
These terms do not allow you to sublicense or transfer any of your licenses to anyone else, or prevent the licensor from granting licenses to anyone else. These terms do not imply any other licenses.
Patent Defense
If you make any written claim that the software infringes or contributes to infringement of any patent, your patent license for the software granted under these terms ends immediately. If your company makes such a claim, your patent license ends immediately for work on behalf of your company.
Violations
The first time you are notified in writing that you have violated any of these terms, or done anything with the software not covered by your licenses, your licenses can nonetheless continue if you come into full compliance with these terms, and take practical steps to correct past violations, within 32 days of receiving notice. Otherwise, all your licenses end immediately.
No Liability
As far as the law allows, the software comes as is, without any warranty or condition, and the licensor will not be liable to you for any damages arising out of these terms or the use or nature of the software, under any kind of legal claim.
Definitions
The licensor is the individual or entity offering these terms, and the software is the software the licensor makes available under these terms.
You refers to the individual or entity agreeing to these terms. Your company is any legal entity, sole proprietorship, or other kind of organization that you work for, plus all organizations that have control over, are under the control of, or are under common control with that organization. Control means ownership of substantially all the assets of an entity, or the power to direct its management and policies by vote, contract, or otherwise. Control can be direct or indirect. Your licenses are all the licenses granted to you for the software under these terms.
Use means anything you do with the software requiring one of your licenses.
Pali Ijo license
Pali Ijo is the open-source CAD kernel used by PaliCAD. It is a separate project and is intended to be available under a permissive license so its geometry and modelling tools can be reused in other software.
