Changelog

Release notes for PaliCAD.

0.1.3 (Desktop) / 1.0.3 (iPad) — Unreleased

PaliCAD

  • Fixed Android’s Open document picker failing for .pali files and silently hiding picker errors.
  • Fixed Apple Pencil hover moving sketch confirmation controls on iPad. Mouse and trackpad sketching now use desktop click-to-place behavior while Pencil and finger input retain touch confirmation.

Pali Ijo

0.1.2 (Desktop) / 1.0.2 (iPad)

PaliCAD

  • Fixed unnecessary navigation-cube spacing and inaccessible tool buttons in small iPad windows.
  • Kept controls clear of Android system navigation buttons and screen cutouts in portrait and landscape.
  • Fixed Auto extrusion incorrectly choosing subtraction for some concave profiles.
  • Fixed extruding regions around nested or touching sketch shapes, preserving a single opening without internal walls.
  • Fixed the interactive Extrude tool losing polygon edges in previews and applied results.
  • Starting a new document resets the view to Home.
  • Added smooth camera transitions into sketch editing and back to the previous 3D angle, with a Settings toggle and reduced-motion support. Interrupting a transition snaps to its intended alignment before navigation resumes.
  • Fixed the polygon sides field being cramped in narrow layouts and incorrectly displaying length units.
  • Fixed face-created sketch axes so the model stays upright and the grid and drawing tools align. Existing empty face sketches are corrected when opened.
  • Added horizontal scrolling and tap-to-position editing to the touchscreen numpad for long values and expressions.
  • Length fields retain entered units, including inches and feet, when typing or using the touchscreen numpad.
  • Numeric settings now save automatically without pressing Enter, fixing changes being lost when closing Settings on iPad and touchscreens.
  • Fixed the toolbar's recent-files menu disabling accessible iPad documents. Failed open attempts now retain recent entries unless the file is confirmed missing.
  • Open .pali files from the system file browser, with Save, Don’t Save and Cancel choices before replacing an open document.

Pali Ijo

  • Fixed incomplete arcs in extruded profiles that could cause unions against curved walls to fail.
  • Fixed STEP import crashes caused by collapsed triangles on trimmed cylindrical surfaces.
  • Fixed polygon extrusions being mistaken for curves, preserving straight sides across side counts, holes and combined sketch regions.
  • Removed the fixed 10,000 mm fillet radius cap; limits now follow the selected geometry.
  • Fixed hollowing pointed cones while preserving wall thickness and a closed solid.
  • Fixed face extrusions retaining overlapping walls when joining another part of the same body, and improved triangulation of concave faces.
  • Fixed leftover surface boundaries in unions of stretched bodies, including old outlines visible in X-ray.

0.1.1 (desktop) / 1.0.1 (iPad)

PaliCAD

  • Improved sketch editing performance in large models by limiting off-screen drawing and preventing continuous input from repeatedly cancelling viewport updates.
  • Face projection runs in a cancellable background worker to keep the interface responsive.
  • Sketches now have independent placement and can be moved or rotated in 3D. Creating a sketch can optionally add a construction plane to the browser.
  • Older projects upgrade automatically and record the current app version when saved. Files saved in the new project format cannot be opened by older app versions.
  • Slice can use a face from another body as its cutting plane.
  • Improved large STEP imports and handling of complex curved geometry.
  • Fixed spline control adjustments not applying and line drawing unexpectedly switching input from Length to Angle.
  • Long browser names and project titles can scroll to reveal the full text.
  • Added a confirmation before converting CAD bodies to meshes.
  • Automatically revealed default planes can start a sketch with one click. Fixed inverse-fillet previews not refreshing when switching modes.
  • Added a workaround for crashes when resizing or tiling the Mac window.
  • Expanded previous-release compatibility checks.

Pali Ijo

  • Improved unions, subtraction and slicing, including touching or mirrored bodies and repeated edits to curved geometry.
  • Fixed several edge fillet, inverse fillet, chamfer and hollowing failures.
  • Improved internal and tapered threads, including threads in holes matching the nominal thread diameter.
  • Expanded STEP support and improved triangulation of imported, spline and spherical surfaces.
  • Fixed incomplete curved-edge outlines and improved mesh Boolean reliability.

0.1.0

Initial public release.

  • Sketching: Lines, polylines, circles, rectangles, polygons, splines, and tools for editing and arranging sketches.
  • Solid modeling: Extrusion, primitives, boolean union/subtract/intersect, fillets, chamfers, hollowing, threads, pipes, slicing, mirroring, and scaling.
  • Selection: Work with whole objects, faces, edges, and construction planes.
  • Construction planes: Create planes for sketches, including planes based on model faces.
  • File formats: Import and export STL, STEP, 3MF, and 2D DXF. Save editable projects in PaliCAD’s .pali format.
  • Workflow: Undo and redo, autosave, keyboard shortcuts, and light and dark themes.
  • Pali Ijo: Dart BREP CAD kernel with solid-modeling operations, tessellation for display, and import/export support.
  • Platform packages: Mac, Windows, Linux, an experimental Android APK, and desktop source.

Known bugs and limitations

  • Spline control handles may not respond to adjustment.
  • Hollowing may fail on a rectangular prism after an edge has been filleted to its full extent.
  • Android is experimental and untested. Small screens may have crowded or overlapping controls, and touch-specific controls currently require enabling Touchscreen mode in Settings.
  • Minimum desktop window sizes are 1200 × 700 logical pixels on Windows/Linux and 838 × 600 points of app content on macOS. Display scaling and window borders require additional screen space.
